Common questions
Does the metal change the taste?
No — 18/10 stainless is inert and does not flavor coffee. What does change is the temperature curve: an insulated pot holds heat, so the coffee keeps extracting slightly after pressing. Decant it if you like a very clean cup.
How does the two-stage filter compare with a single mesh?
It leaves noticeably less silt. A single mesh screen passes fine grounds that settle at the bottom of the cup; the pre-filter catches most of them. It is the strongest argument for this press over a cheaper steel one.
Is there really no plastic?
No plastic on the pot. That matters here more than on most objects because a French press holds near-boiling water against its own walls and lid for four minutes — the conditions this whole site is about.
