No. It is bare 18/8 stainless. This is worth checking on any tumbler, because a number of insulated mugs have a coated or plastic-lined interior and only advertise the steel shell.

Will coffee make it smell?

Steel does not hold flavor the way plastic does, but coffee oils will build up on any surface. Wash it the day you use it, run the cap through the dishwasher, and it stays neutral. Baking soda and hot water resets it if you forget.

Can I get rid of the plastic cap?

Yes — Klean Kanteen sells a stainless loop cap that fits the same body. You lose the sip opening and gain a cap with no plastic in it. That is the honest choice most people do not know exists.
