Does bamboo stain?
It can pick up color from tomato and berries over time. That is cosmetic rather than a hygiene problem, provided it is washed and dried promptly.
How is this different from a bamboo-melamine plate?
Enormously, and it is worth checking on any bamboo toddler dish. Many "bamboo" plates are bamboo fiber bound in melamine resin, which is a plastic. A solid bamboo plate is wood; a bamboo-melamine composite is plastic with wood filler.
