Natural rubber swells slightly, softens and darkens with use — that is the material aging, and it is why the four-to-six-week replacement guidance exists. A soother that has become sticky, swollen or torn goes in the bin immediately.

What is the latex risk?

Natural rubber latex is a known allergen and reactions can be significant. Any family history of latex allergy means choosing silicone. This is the one warning on this page that is not a preference.

How do I clean it?

Sterilize once before first use as the maker instructs, then wash in hot water. Avoid repeated boiling and dishwasher cycles, which break rubber down fast, and let it dry fully rather than storing it damp.
