Avoid linen-look polyester blends, which is most of what "linen style" means at low prices. Also avoid fabric softener on real linen: it coats the fiber and works against the natural softening the washing does for free.

Common questions

Is OEKO-TEX as good as GOTS?

They answer different questions. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests the finished textile for harmful substances against defined limits. GOTS certifies organic fiber content plus the whole processing chain. For flax, which needs far fewer inputs than cotton, an OEKO-TEX certified linen is a genuinely strong choice — just do not read it as an organic certification.

Is linen scratchy?

New linen is textured rather than scratchy, and stone-washed linen starts noticeably softer. It keeps softening for years with washing. If you want silky from night one, that is sateen cotton — linen is a different pleasure.

Does it wrinkle?

Constantly and unapologetically. That is the look, and it is also the proof that no resin finish has been applied. If a crisp bed is important to you, choose percale cotton instead.
