Why it's safe for your family

True HEPA media is defined by its performance: it captures at least 99.97 percent of particles at 0.3 microns, the hardest size to catch. Airborne microplastic fibers shed by carpets, curtains and synthetic bedding are far larger than that.
A bedroom is the room where this matters most. It is full of textiles, you spend eight hours a night breathing in it, and disturbed dust from bedding settles slowly through the air you are lying in.
The activated carbon layer handles what a fiber filter cannot: gases and odors, including some volatile organic compounds released by furniture and finishes.

Avoid ionizing and ozone-generating air cleaners, which market themselves on "active" purification and produce a lung irritant to do it. Also avoid buying a purifier and never changing the filter: a loaded HEPA filter is the most common reason a purifier stops working, and nothing announces it.

Common questions

Does it actually capture microplastic fibers?

A True HEPA filter is rated at 99.97 percent capture for 0.3 micron particles, and textile microfibers are much larger than that, so they are well within what the media traps. What a purifier cannot do is remove fibers already settled in carpet and bedding — it treats the air, not the surfaces.

How often does the filter need changing?

Every six to eight months in typical use, sooner in a dusty home or with pets. A HEPA filter does not fail loudly; airflow just drops. Put a reminder in your calendar the day you install one.

Is it loud at night?

On the lowest speed it is a soft hum most people sleep through; on the highest it is clearly audible. Size the purifier to the room so it can run low rather than fighting the space on high.
