Why it's safe for your family

  • The bowls are stainless steel, so the surface holding food is bare food-grade metal with no plastic and no coating.
  • Steel does not stain, hold odors or absorb oils, so it does not degrade with repeated use the way plastic mixing bowls do.
  • Non-porous and non-reactive, which means acidic mixtures and marinades can sit in them without picking up flavor or attacking the surface.
  • Dishwasher safe at full heat without warping or clouding, so cleaning never roughens the food surface.

What to avoid instead

This replaces plastic mixing bowls, which scratch under whisks and beaters, stain from tomato and turmeric, and hold onto oils — all signs of a surface being abraded.

How we verify — and what we don't

Straight answer: we're a research team, not a testing lab. Here's exactly what our rating is based on — and what it isn't — so you can weigh it honestly.

What we check

  • What the product is made of, from the maker's own specs and product listing.
  • Whether any part that touches you or your food uses PTFE, PFAS, plastic, or a coating that can degrade.
  • Peer-reviewed research on how that material behaves when heated, scratched, washed, or worn.
  • Known failure modes — how the product actually breaks down in a real home.

What we don't do

  • We have not chemically tested this specific unit in a lab.
  • We don't take payment to rate a product higher — there is no sponsored placement.
  • We don't show star ratings or "trusted by thousands" counts we can't stand behind.
What gets a product rejected

Anything that adds a known microplastic, PFAS, or off-gassing source — a non-stick coating, a plastic surface against food or skin, vinyl/PVC — is downgraded or cut. We only list what clears that bar.

Common questions

Can I microwave them?
No — never put stainless steel in a microwave. If you need to melt butter or chocolate, use a glass bowl. This is the standing trade-off with steel and it is worth knowing before you replace every plastic bowl in the kitchen.
Are the non-slip bases plastic?
The bottom rings on this set are a soft grip material, not steel. They sit underneath the bowl and never touch food, but if you want an item that is metal end to end, plain steel bowls without a grip ring exist.
Why rated Great rather than Excellent?
Because of that grip base. The food surface is bare steel and does the job perfectly, but the set is not one hundred percent metal, and our top rating goes to items with no synthetic component at all.
