What to avoid instead

This replaces a standard carbon-only pitcher. Those improve taste and reduce chlorine but have no membrane, so they are not a physical barrier to microplastic particles, bacteria or cysts.

Read that as laboratory-tested to the standard rather than a listed NSF certification mark for every claim — it is stronger evidence than a manufacturer's own bench test, and weaker than a full certification listing like AquaTru's.
How slow is it?
A 0.2 micron membrane is a genuine physical barrier, so gravity filtration through it is slow — noticeably slower than a carbon pitcher, and it slows further as the filter loads. This is the trade for the filtration level; plan to fill it and walk away rather than wait at the counter.
Is the pitcher itself plastic?
The standard Home pitcher body is BPA-free plastic. If you would rather your filtered water sat in glass, LifeStraw makes a glass version of this pitcher — same filter, glass body. That is the version we would choose on a site about reducing plastic contact.
