The Short Version
Plasticproof is reader-supported. When you click an affiliate link on our site and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That commission is how this site stays free.
We only recommend products we have researched and believe meaningfully reduce plastic and chemical exposure. We do not accept payment, free product, or sponsorship in exchange for a recommendation, and we do not let advertisers shape our editorial.
How It Works
Most of our product links go to Amazon, where we participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program — an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When you click one of our Amazon links and complete a purchase, Amazon pays us a percentage of that sale. The price you pay is exactly the same whether you click our link or go to Amazon directly.
A small number of our links go to other retailers (such as the brands we recommend, or specialty retailers like Coyuchi or Naturepedic) under similar affiliate programs. The same rules apply: same price for you, small commission for us, no influence over what we recommend.
How We Choose Products
Every product we recommend has to clear three bars:
- Material safety — verified non-plastic or low-microplastic-shedding construction, where applicable third-party certified (GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX, GREENGUARD Gold, etc.).
- Real-world performance — owner reports across multiple sources, durability evidence, return-rate signals.
- Reasonable value — comparable or better price for the same certifications and quality versus alternatives we evaluated.
If a product fails any of those, it doesn't make the page — even if the affiliate program pays better.
What We Do Not Do
- Accept payment from brands to be included in a roundup.
- Take free product in exchange for a positive review.
- Run sponsored posts disguised as editorial.
- Hide affiliate relationships. Every product page on this site discloses the relationship.
FTC Compliance
This disclosure exists because the U.S. Federal Trade Commission requires it: any time someone has a "material connection" to a product they're endorsing — including a financial one — they have to clearly tell you. The disclosure block at the top of every product article on this site, and this page, are how we do that.
Questions
If something on the site looks like it might be a hidden affiliate relationship we haven't disclosed, please tell us — we'll fix it. Email support@getlucidai.com.
